Young Investigator Award

Purpose

  • The award is presented by the Swiss Society of Tropical Medicine and Parasitology (SSTMP) to young scientists for outstanding achievements in research on tropical diseases and / or parasitology.
  • It is a contribution of the SSTMP to promote young scientists (Nachwuchsförderung).
  • The award can be presented once a year during the Annual Conference of the SSTMP. If no suitable or acceptable candidates are nominated, the award will not be presented.
  • The award is endowed with CHF 2000, payable to the recipient.

Nominations

  • While there is no formal age limit for the award, the recipient should have completed recently (within 2 years) a Doctoral degree (PhD, MD, VMD). Students working in all fields of applied and experimental tropical medicine, veterinary or human parasitology are eligible.
  • Nominees don’t have to be members of the SSTMP, but their supervisors or nominating individuals should be members. Nominees are of course encouraged to join the society.
  • Nominations should be addressed to one of the board members of the SSTMP, who will in turn inform the other board members.
  • Information accompanying the nomination should include (i) a cover letter with a brief outline of the nominee’s work and scientific achievements (ii), a CV of the candidate with a full publication list, and (iii) a sample of the most important publication(s).
  • The deadline for the nominations will depend on the date of the annual society meeting and be announced through the usual SSTMP communication channels.
  • The board will review the nominations and announce the winner at the annual society meeting.
  • The winner of the prize will be invited to the annual SSTMP conference where s/he will present a brief outline of his/her work.

Financing

  • The award is financed through the regular SSTMP budget. However, financial support from external sponsors can also be sought.
