Travel Award

Purpose

  • The travel award of the Swiss Society of Tropical Medicine and Parasitology (SSTMP) is granted to selected young scientists (i.e. doctoral students and early career researchers) from Swiss institutions and contributes towards the cost of participation to scientific meetings, researcher exchange programmes and trainings.
  • The travel award is limited to CHF 1,000. Payments will be made upon presentation of the relevant receipts for travel and accommodation and only paid into institutional accounts.
  • The SSTMP travel award exclusively supports travel for networking and training, and not for supporting other work- or project-related travel such as field work. International meetings are given priority.

Nominations

  • Any doctoral student (i.e. PhD, MD, DVM) or early career researcher working in a relevant field (i.e. applied and experimental tropical medicine, veterinary, human or general parasitology) at a Swiss university or research organisation is eligible.
  • The candidate has to be nominated by a member of the SSTMP that is usually her or his supervisor. Recipients are strongly encouraged to join the SSTMP.
  • Nominations should be addressed to the Secretary of the SSTMP.
  • The request should be made in form of a letter or e-mail message and include a brief outline of the nominee’s work, the purpose of the travel and summary meeting documentation.
  • Applications can be submitted at any time. The decision will be communicated within max. 4 weeks after submission.
  • Successful applicants are expected to promote the SSTMP during their activities; this includes using the SSTMP logo on presentations, and acknowledging the SSTMP support in any publications or talks resulting from the funded activity. Logos and wording to acknowledge the SSTMP support will be supplied to awardees.
  • Upon return, the recipient has to write a one page article for the SSTMP newsletter.

Financing

  • The award is financed through the SSTMP budget.

Submission process

Applications must be submitted to the Secretary and comprise the following documents:

  1. Outline of the applicant’s work, the purpose of the travel and meeting summary documentation (letter or e-mail).
  2. Budget for the entire travel, indicating the requested amount as financial contribution which may not exceed CHF 1,000. Indicate other sources and amount of funding and post-travel reimbursements such as university travel funds.
  3. Supporting nomination letter from the supervisor or another SSTMP member.

All applicants are informed about the decision on their application. If the award is approved the awardee submits an invoice to the treasurer following the template that will be sent out together with the award notification.
